more about myself

My name is Jordan Pearson and I'm a visual artist, educator, and beekeeper living in central Alberta, Canada. I studied fine art at Red Deer College and the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Afterwards, I received my Bachelor of Education in art from the University of Alberta. I am a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Oil Painters of America, and represented by the Museum of Encaustic Art.
I have two different painting mediums that I switch between. Currently I am working on an oil painting body of work. These paintings are all painted from life in my studio.
My other process involves the technique of encaustic painting. I use many layers of rich pure beeswax and damar resin as the painting medium. To colour the painting medium, I use oil paint and dry pigment. I use the encaustic painting medium to work in numerous thin layers with the result being deeply layered paintings that take advantage of the wax’s transparent quality.
I love collecting found nature items or dead specimens to paint from life with! I have a collection of sticks, bones and butterfleis that I use in my oil paintings.
My current body of work focuses on the fragility of nature, and the emergence of light that comes from death. There is a connecting theme of death, beauty, balance and fragility within a landscape and in the still life scenes that I paint from. Even though I see the balance in nature and the mind as being delicate, I also see it as being incredibly strong, able and full of life. Throughout all of my painting, I hope to promote thoughts around respect, concern, and kindness towards the fragile environment that surrounds us and also which lives inside of us.
